New Year’s Day Shinty

What luck to have brilliant sunshine and a very low tide at lunchtime on New Year’s Day for the shinty on Ardalanish Beach – the weather prior to that had really not looked hopeful.
A good number of players turned out, the 2 teams captained by Rob Claxton-Ingham of Lee and Michael Ritchie of Ardtun. Two balls came in to play very early on in the match, a custom brought in by referee Andrew Smith some years ago, and which tends to make the game more interesting.
By half time Michael’s team ‘ The Zingies’ were leading 2-1, which Michael claimed was thanks to his star player, his son Oliver. However this early lead was not to come to fruition, as the ‘Red Ribbon’ team, also perhaps known as ‘We’ll tell you after’, came back with a vengeance in the later stages… more in the printed issue
