The weather gods were kinder on the day of the Salen Show, and the predicted rain held off until shortly after 3pm. This did mean the later championships were held in the rain, but everyone was in good spirits.
It was good to see a large number of folk enjoying the various attractions, including chainsaw carving, a bouncy castle and the ever-popular rodeo bull, and the many stalls – a favourite of which was Sgriob-ruadh’s ‘Gin Bar’, which had a lovely ambience, with proper wooden tables and chairs, where passers-by could sample not only gin but the new ‘Whey-ski’ spirit, aged in oak casks and like all Sgriob-ruadh’s spirits, distilled from the whey which is a by-product of the cheese-making. I can testify that it really does taste a little bit like whisky… more in the printed issue
