Bunessan 11s

Saturday 4th May saw competitive 11-aside football return to the Ross of Mull as Bunessan FC hosted a men’s tournament comprising of teams from Bunessan, Tobermory, Islay and two from Oban. This festival of football had been organised to celebrate the arrival of two sets of 11-aside goals and a line marker which were purchased for the Bunessan Sports Field using funding which had been kindly donated by CMAL. The goal posts arrived earlier in the year and have been well used so far with regular kick-abouts taking place on Friday evenings where everyone is welcome.
Ahead of the main events of the day, a kid’s match took place between Bunessan Primary School and Tobermory Rockers. It was fantastic to see so many boys and girls running around having fun and with some great talent on show as well. Encouraging the next generation into taking part in sport is a significant part of efforts to keep improving the Bunessan Sports Field so it was brilliant to have the island’s youngsters kicking things off.
On the day, the tournament comprised of a round robin format with each team facing each other over two 12-minute halves. Ground preparations in the run up to the big day paid dividends with the pitch looking glorious in the early May sunshine and what better way to kick the day off than with a Mull derby!… more in the printed issue
