On Sunday 13th July, around 60 people took part in a well-natured protest at the head of Craignure Pier. The event was organised by Tobermory local Michelle Devlin, owner of the Pier Café. After many months without the MV Isle of Mull (due to the decay of her emergency evacuation slides), the protest was prompted by two concurrent pieces of unwelcome ferry news:
Firstly, after just one week of being back on the Craignure – Oban run following repairs to her evacuation slides, the MV Isle of Mull was re-deployed to Lochboisdale. This was due to ongoing problems with the Caledonian Isles, which has suffered from repeated powertrain issues since her return from extensive hull repairs at Cammel Laird shipyard.
