The opening of the Wilson-Thomson Helipad at Craignure hospital took place on 29th May. We were blessed with a dry and sometimes sunny morning for the event.
The formalities of the day were opened by piper Calum MacDougall of Fionnphort, who led everyone up onto the helipad with some beautiful local tunes. Iain Erskine was on hand taking photos from above with his drone, as were a number of photographers on the ground.
The helipad is named after John Wilson and Bill Thomson, who were instrumental in setting up what became Mull & Iona Community Hospital and Bowman Court, and served as community representatives on the steering group for the ‘Progressive Care Centre’ for many years, Bill as chairman and John as vice-chairman.
John was guest of honour on the day, and cut the ribbon to declare the helipad officially open. In his speech he emphasized what an asset the helipad would be to the community… more in the printed issue
