Midsummer Shinty

After having to cancel the New Year Shinty match on Ardalanish beach on 2 consecutive years, Andrew and Anne Smith hit on the brilliant idea of holding a midsummer shinty event this year as a fund raiser. On Wednesday evening 22nd June a large group gathered for burgers, sausages, home baking and of course to play or watch a rudimentary and chaotic game of shinty!
Two teams were quickly chosen and named ‘Pingu’ and ‘Clueless’ and then the players set to. After only a short burst of play a second ball was introduced to make things more interesting, and by half time the score was a traditional 1-1 (although one or two voices were raised contesting this!!)
A record number of sticks were smashed – we counted at least four – and a record number of goals scored, giving a final result of 12 all…. more in the printed issue
