Mull & Islands Gathering 2021

Even though the official Highland Games circuit is cancelled for 2021, the Mull Highland Games committee (with President Andrew Kain as the driving force) was determined that another year should not go by without an event to mark the day. Much work and planning went in to organizing what came to be called the ‘Mull & Islands Highland Gathering 2021’ on Thursday 22nd July – and what a triumph it was!
The day was baking hot and there was a good attendance, perhaps around a third of the usual crowd, which easily allowed for social distancing.
With uncertainty around travel due to the Covid restrictions, this was an event with the emphasis on the local – all the competitions were intended for locals, although as is the tradition at the Highland Games, ‘local’ can include the whole of Argyll & Bute.
There was a good entry of Mull heavy athletes; James Campbell, Andy Johnston, Scott MacColl, James Henderson and Ash Riley – all of whom had been in training with Brian Robin at Garmony for the past few months.
