Mull Local Mòd

The Mull Provincial Mòd was one of the busiest and most successful yet. With over 250 junior competitors on Friday, we needed 11 venues across Tobermory to accommodate all of the competitions. It was a very wet day, but spirits were not dampened and the youngsters competed in solo, poetry, conversation, duet, instrumental and choral competitions, helped largely by the generous help of Andy Malcolm, who transformed his taxi into a ‘Mòd shuttle bus’ for the day.
On Friday morning, Aros Hall saw 3 pre-school and 12 primary action songs. Tobermory High School also entered the U19 action song competition, featuring a Robert Robertson lookalike, much to the amusement of the actual Robert Robertson, who was adjudicating! The highly contested primary action song was won by Appin Primary School, closely followed by Lochdonhead and Lochaline in second place.
After the morning competitions drew to a close, the children gathered on the beach, drawing a large crowd of spectators as they sang ‘Thoir Mo Shoraidh Thar Ghunaigh’ and a rousing rendition of ‘Ar Cànan ‘s ar Ceòl.’… more in the printed issue
