New School Campus for Mull?

Argyll & Bute Council (A&BC) has identified a new school campus on Mull as the priority across its entire learning estate, and intends to put in a bid for funding to the Scottish Government’s ‘Learning Estate Investment Programme’ (LEIP).
The Council is asking for islander’s views on what a new Mull school campus should look like, if funding can be secured – and to that end is holding a series of ‘engagement sessions’ on 11th August at Tobermory High School.
This seemed an odd choice of venue, given that the Council appears to wish to hear all islanders’ views, and Tobermory is not easily accessible for example for anyone from Fionnphort wishing to attend, given that this involves a round trip of 110 miles approx. and anything up to 4 hours travelling. The timing also appears inconvenient, falling as it does during the school holidays and on the day of the Salen Show, with meetings scheduled for 5pm and 7pm for various groups. If you happen to reside on Iona, attendance would therefore also necessitate an overnight stay on Mull! We queried these points with A&BC… more in the printed issue
