This year’s shinty on Ardalanish Beach attracted a good crowd in spite of the bitterly cold wind on New Year’s Day – around 80 folk gathered for hot soup and cake, and around half of these took part in the shinty match. Team captains as in previous years were Rob Claxton-Ingham and Rutger Emmelkamp, who led their teams to a glorious 7-all draw. When asked what the score had been at half time, Rob surmised probably 2½ goals each!
All were agreed that this was the windiest match they could recall, but Rutger reckoned some of the more skilled players were able to make use of the wind to their advantage. The maximum number of balls in play at any one time was three… more in the printed issue
