Òrain Teonaidh Chailein

Wednesday the 5th of June saw a great night of local Gaelic music and song in Bunessan Hall. At the helm was Dr Alasdair Whyte of Salen as well as other local musicians Sorren Maclean, Ross Wilson and Hannah Fisher.
Alasdair is currently involved in a three year project – Iona’s Namescape – based in Celtic & Gaelic at the University of Glasgow with the core objective of a survey of the place-names of Iona and Staffa. To help with this, he has been looking closely at the songs written by Iona born bard and Ross of Mull postman, the late Teonaidh Chailein (Johnny Campbell).
