The visit of the PS Waverley to Salen Pier was the icing on the cake following the pier’s 18 year restoration… We were approached about 18 months ago by the Waverley team for them to visit, which is when planning started. The visit of the Waverley, the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world, on 27th May 2025 was a historic occasion as it was the first visit by a passenger ferry since 1964. The atmosphere was amazing as the Waverley’s professional team pulled smoothly up against the pier. Crowds of children from the local primary school cheered from the shore creating the noisiest welcome the Waverley had ever received, according to Waverley Excursions MD Paul Semple!… more in the printed issue
