Retiring MV Isle of Mull

As we have reported in the past, CalMac is of a mind to retire our main vessel, MV Isle of Mull, as soon as the long-awaited Glen Rosa finally escapes from Fergusons shipyard and is put into service. This is currently expected to happen in the autumn of 2026, so we could lose our boat at the end of this summer’s timetable.
The sole reason for this plan appears to be the age of the vessel.
We attended one of the recent ‘consultation drop-ins’ on the matter and asked whether it is an option to keep MV Isle of Mull until the new boats for our crossing have been built. The response was that this would depend on the condition of the vessel. We were taken aback to find CalMac does not expect the results of the recent hull inspection until late March! Our suggestion that maybe they are putting the cart before the horse in consulting on this before they know the outcome met with denial… more in the printed issue
