Sheepdog Trial

The Mull & Morvern Sheepdog Society held its annual open sheepdog trial on Thursday 25th. August at Gruline Fields by kind permission of Donald & Jamie MacLean of Knock Farm. We would also like to thank Mark Cherry for the use of his Blackface and Mule sheep, that behaved impeccably and produced some excellent runs throughout the day. Thanks also to Harry Hickford, now in his 90’s, who had the responsibility for ensuring that the packets of four sheep entered the top of the field in an orderly fashion, supported by Tom Nelson, Geoff Adams and other volunteers.
It is 113 years since the trial was founded in 1909, one of the earliest in the Highlands & Islands. This year was the biggest entry for many years with handlers coming from Scotland but also from Yorkshire, Lancashire and even a visit from the National champion of Israel. We were pleased also to welcome Emma Gray and Ewan Irvine from Bute, stars of TV’s This Farming Life... more in the printed issue
