Sound of Iona Breakwaters

In mid-November we were made aware that Argyll & Bute Council has withdrawn its planning application for ‘Construction of rock armour breakwater and steel monopile overnight berthing facility, including walkway, gangway access and associated works’ at Fionnphort Ferry Slip. Many readers will be relieved at this, since the plans appeared to be considerably flawed. It seems that the application for the Iona side has also been withdrawn.
This does not, however, mean that the project has been abandoned, rather that in the interim there have been sufficient changes to the plans that the planning department has requested that they are re-submitted.
An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is currently under way and so it is likely that new plans will not be submitted until it has been completed – there is currently no specific timeline for completion... more in the printed issue
